Tips on How to Find Jobs in Canada

Find out more information on how to apply for jobs and how to choose the proper job in Canada.

How do I search for a job in Canada?

  • Check the companies you would like to work for by taking a look at their websites. You can also contact employers to see if they have any job openings.
  • Surf the internet for advertisements such as databases, websites, journals. Online job portals are popular in Canada. Here are a few: Job Bank, Robert Half, Indeed, LinkedIn
  • Visit job fairs in the city you would like to work in. This would be a more personal way of letting recruiters know that you are open to work. Even if you don’t necessarily land a job, you will have built connections.
  • Try to reach internal company newspapers and postings through your connections.
  • Talk to people and be attentive to any potential job opportunity that might be presented at all social occasions. Ask family and friends if they know of any job openings.
  • Contact a professional recruitment agency. You can check out the Service Canada Center

What is the application procedure?

  • After sending your application and resume, be patient for a few days to find out if the company/employer will get back to you. Make sure your contact details are included in your application.
  • Keep your resume precise and neat, listing your skills and capabilities on the first page.
  • Tailor your CV by stressing the skills that are relevant to the job requirements.
  • Follow up with the recruiter in order to show your interest and enthusiasm.
  • Have your reference letters ready to send if required.
  • A couple of days after the closing date, you can phone the recruiter to discuss the outcome. Even if they are proceeding with applicants other than you, you can still politely ask the reason for your job rejection. Make a good impression by staying positive and asking for advice on what could be done in order to better improve in your next application. They might even call you back if the first person decides to decline the job offer!

DON’T GET DISCOURAGED! You might only get 10 interviews for every 100 CVs you submit, and for these 10 interviews only one job. But stay patient and motivated - the right job is out there.
